The first simply means the method generally adopted by illegitimate online marketers that involves sending multiple messages to number of email addresses. And email harvesting is one method used by spammers to get numerous live emails. This is one issue which even the top 10 software companies in India are trying to get rid of for years.

Getting Emails from Posts to Usenet using your email address
Spammers are so smart that they know where and when internet users post on forums and other topic under discussion in the internet. Spammers scan Usenet to gather email from article, press releases and other web contents. They use ready-made email harvesting programs. These programs herein mentioned are well designed to recognize email. It is also programmed to select all content containing the character @ and get a possible email out of it. It also happens that these days there are programs that can even undo email masking i.e. removing “nospam” from emails.
