Transferring iTunes Library And iPhone Purchases To A New Computer

It was just some days back that a friend came running to me early in the morning. I knew he needs help from me and I asked him what's the matter. He then said, “Hey man!! I have problems syncing my iPhone to my newly bought computer, I need you help”. He then buttered the sentence by saying “You are my only friend who knows all these things and also you are an employee of the reputed software development company Oglacs”. How will I say no.

I helped him transfer his iTunes Library and iPhone data to his new computer and I am providing the same here in my blog post today.

There is an excitement of getting a new PC whether it's a Windows or a Mac. But the real problem comes when you are unable to sync your device with it for you are running the risk of losing all your data stored in the device. And when it comes to iPhone, the pain is even worse.

I am providing you the steps to how you can get you data from your old computer to your device then to your new computer. Follow this step and you will not have to run to any friend working in an IT outsourcing company or software company anymore.

Start by transferring your data from your old computer to your iPhone. To do that follow the following steps.

1. Connect your iPhone to you old computer by using the USB cable provided with the later.
2. Click on the device name which in the left menu.
3. Uncheck “Automatically Sync When This iPhone is Connected” on the main tab.
4. Apply changes made and then sync your iPhone.

Thereafter, you should have to transfer your music, ringtones, movies, photos, TV shows, etc. to your new computer from your old computer. You can transfer these files using various methods. You can use a flash drive, connect your hard drive to the new computer, etc.

When you are done with this, you can start your work with the new computer. Follow the steps below:

1. Open iTunes on your new computer (Do not connect your iPhone yet)
2. Find Authorize Computer on the Store menu.
3. Enter you username, password and then click on the “Authorize” button.
4. Connect you iPhone to your new computer via USB cable.
5. When connected a dialog will appear. Click on the Transfer Purchase button.
6. In case a dialog box does not appear, right-click on your device's name in the left menu and then click on the Transfer Purchases.

Now you have easily done what everyone thinks is hard. All of your purchases which include movies, music, TV shows, iPhone apps, etc. will now be transferred from your iPhone to your new computer and now you don't have to worry about losing your data.

Win32.AutoIt – Its Harms

I, as always said have gained a lot of important things since the day I worked in this software development company till now. Continuing my last post on the virus Win32.AutoIt, today I will post on the harms done by it on a system.

This worm copies its executable file to the root of all write-accessible removable storage devices under the name – New Folder.exe and this is the visual symptoms with which you can know whether your system is infected by the worm or not. Not only that, this virus also drops the following malicious files -

1. %Windows%\RVHOST.EXE
2. %Sysstem%\RVHOST.EXE (both these two are copies of the virus itself)

Technically, the worm copies its executable fiels to windows system and root directories as:

1. %WinDir%\RVHOST.exe
2. %System%\RVHOST.exe

when launching.

This worm is indeed a smart one. I said this because this worm does one thing to ensure that it launches automatically when the system is rebooted, it adds a link to its executable file to the system registry.

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Yahoo Messengger" = "%System%\RVHOST.exe"
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Shell = "Explorer.exe RVHOST.exe"

This virus is also an adamant one since it doesn't stop here but it also copies its executable file to the root of all write-accessible removable disks under the name – New Folder.exe. It further copies its executable file to all folders of removable disks wherein the worm will have the same name as the folder with an “.exe” extension.

What I can also see when my friend (remember the one who works in an IT outsourcing company whom I mention in the last post?) called me to help him solve this problem is that this worm is capable of preventing system registry edition tool and task manager from launching. When I checked online and ask the software designers, they say that this is done by the worm by creating system registry key parameters given below:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
DisableRegistryTools = 1
DisableTaskMgr = 1

One thing everyone should know is that Win32.AutoIt may arrive on your system as a downloadable file from a malicious Web site. It may also be dropped by another malware. So be aware the next time you visit any site and download files from it.

Win32.AutoIt – What Is It And What Do We Do About It?

I was one ignorant person who at one time was totally cyber-ignorant. It is only when I start working in this software development company that I started learning about computers and what goes on in and out of it. And based on my knowledge, I am going to post about a virus for the coming two or three days.

The virus I am talking about is the Win32.AutoIt. It is technically worm type virus. This virus is also known as Win32.Worm.AutoIt and Worm.AutoIt. The damage carried out by this virus is not that critical as Trojan Horses does but it can be quiet frustrating for users since this virus creates copies of itself on local disks and write-accessible removable disks. It is a Windows PE EXE file and is packed using UPX.

I have seen the same thing happening on a friend's computer who works in an IT outsourcing company. I acted smart that day and told him what he can do to avoid this virus and it helped him. I'm posting what should be done to avoid this virus in the next post. Visit back.

Why are Computer Virus Created?

All of us knows that viruses harms our computer and every software development company is trying with all might to put a fix to all sorts of viruses. The big question here is, why would anyone create such harmful programs?

Most people especially the adolescents would write viruses out of mischief but there is also a section of virus writers who would create viruses for other bad intentions. But to make one understand this, first he or she must understand the “backdoor” concept.

Many companies, maybe an IT outsourcing company or a bank, keep their important information of their businesses in their system. There are people who pry on that and it is at such times that they use viruses to create vulnerabilities in their computers. The vulnerable part is called the backdoor through which attackers or hacker can gain control of the system(s).

A perfect example of a backdoor virus is the “Trojan Horse”. Trojan is a virus designed solely for opening backdoor. They are pieces of code you might download along with any file. It's name is taken from the Trojan war. However, (contradicting to my statement “Trojan is a virus”) Trojan is not considered a virus since Trojan doesn't replicate.

Once a hacker or an attacker gains control of a system, the main thing they do is get important information out and then send spams to other computers or emails connected to the computer under control. Spamming is done in order to gain control on other computers as well as to bring down the probability of tracking down the source of the virus.

Online Scam – Don't Be Its Victim

A week or two ago, one friend of mine asked me to lend him fifty thousand rupees. I agreed but not before asking him what is the reason behind that. Then, I came to know that he was up to some business and in further interrogation, he said that he's going to get one million pound from a UK-based financier for which he received a mail. Not only that, he also said that in another mail he was told by a software development company based in Singapore that he has been shortlisted for a job by them and for that he should prior to joining the company make a payment of $250.

When he was excitedly explaining, I remembered that there was once an advertisement for such online scam and I told him everything. Thank God!! I saved him and my money too. I saved a friend from being fooled but not all people who are victim of such scams. Today's post is for them.

The next time you open your email, you check you junk mail and you find some anonymous bank telling you that you are selected as one amongst the many who will be rewarded a huge amount of money. Don't be excited but think, have you ever applied for any competition or a lottery. If not, why should someone just give you free money. In this selfish world of today, it's impossible. My friend which I talked about is working in an IT outsourcing company and God he was almost fooled.

To avoid such spam mails and scam mails, you may stop registering in untrusted sites. Think twice before you provide your credentials to any individual or company and do not click on any unapproved advertisements. These are the source from where scammers and spammers harvest emails. And one thing you should also remember is that, these scams happen not only through emails but text messaging (SMS) and calls too.

Securing Your Network – Hardware Firewall

My working in a softwaredevelopment company has made me aware of all the pros and cons of everything related to software and the internet. Continuing my post on network security today I will be writing about securing your network using Hardware Firewall.

Similar to software firewall, a hardware firewall also works as the former in securing your network but it has certain advantages. The advantages as for instance can be placed as this. A software firewall needs to be installed on each computer system in your network while in the case of a hardware firewall, it centralizes all connections' control between the internet and your network. This makes you sure that all the systems in your network are secured and are playing their roles without any performance depreciation. This is the reason why not just a single IT outsourcing company go for the hardware firewall but all major companies.

In terms of port filtering and encryption tasks, hardware firewall use their own processors. This means that you get better gross performance since there is a negligible drain of resource in your network. Not only that, there are firewalls that allow setting up VPN connections to your personal LAN from the internet. Which means you can ensure that your network can be accessed in a secured way while you are on the road.
